Пожарные делали все возможное, чтобы потушить вспыхнувшие леса, однако сильный ветер и высокая температура в сочетании с сухим воздухом усложнили их работу. Греческим пожарным службам пришлось задействовать пятнадцать самолетов и девять вертолетов, чтобы помочь в борьбе с пожаром. Ко всему прочему в тушении пожаров были задействованы сотни людей и машин.

Позднее власти заявили, что положение немного улучшилось, однако сообщается, что в огне пострадали трое пожарных и девять местных жителей, которые попали в больницу. За ночь полиция эвакуировала более 600 человек из своих домов и доставила их в безопасное место. Очевидцы отмечали, что впервые в жизни наблюдали, как с неба падала зола.
