Накануне власти Пуэрто-Рико ввели чрезвычайное положение на острове после сильного землетрясения, нарушившего систему энергоснабжения, инфраструктуру и приведшего к обрушению ряда домов.
Накануне у берегов Пуэрто-Рико произошло землетрясение магнитудой 5,7. Позже сейсмологи сообщили о землетрясении магнитудой 6,6, за которым спустя 10 минут последовало еще одно, магнитуда которого составила 5,6.

Очередное землетрясение магнитудой 5,8 произошло у побережья Пуэрто-Рико во вторник. Эпицентр располагался в одном километре к юго-западу от населенного пункта Тальябоа. Очаг залегал на глубине 10 километров.
По распоряжению губернатора острова Ванды Васкес Гарсед, будет создана специальная группа, которая в том числе оценит последствия землетрясения.
